I SHOULD GO FOR A VACATION NOW

After so many years of working without taking any vacation, I ought to take one right now. It’s time I should let loose and enjoy myself to the maximum to do what I have longed for – skiing, mountaineering and hiking in the snow. Austria would be the ideal destination as the small country has the snowy ski villages of the Tyrolean Alps to the breathtaking resorts at the southern lake district of Vienna.< Austria has always reminded me of the beautiful sceneries, museums, churches and architectural structures in which Julia Andrews starred in my all time favorite, The Sound of Music. Austria, being known as a classical music country in the world map was also the birth place of world class musicians such as Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and Johann Strauss. I better start checking all the travel deals that would be available now as I could not wait to get my hands on those Vienna sausages, Afpelstrudel, Palatschinken, Germknodel and many other yummy delicacies that I have been yearning for. The more I talk about food, the hungrier I get now. I’m wondering if I should make Austria my winter sports or Austrian cuisine destination. Maybe I would just choose both since I would be there for my vacation. 😛

I'm thirsty for a drink now. Would you be kind enough to treat me?

I WAS LUCKY THIS TIME NOT TO BE LATE

Have you experienced being late for an important appointment that would cost you your job or a multi million dollar deal? Well, I had but it was not as serious as the two mentioned earlier. I was to attend a birthday lunch that I had arranged for my Dad and I was almost late if not for my alertness. Thank goodness gracious!

I’m a person who would keep to my appointed time but somehow my watch had failed me again. The wonderful thing is that when I brought my watch for a fix, the watch repair person could not find any faults in the mechanism. I’m still wondering how the time on my watch could have slowed down for an hour or so and yet continued to be alive after that. Another thing that surprised me was that it would happen once every three to four months although I had the batteries replaced with brand new quality ones. This is still a mystery!

I’m so attached to my watch that I could not go without it as it was a gift from a personal friend. But to face the little hiccup that it would bring every few months could be rather risky, especially when it would be an important meeting that I had to attend. I had sent the watch to be monitored for a few weeks many times but it came out with a clean bill each time. I guessed I would have to find other alternatives as misjudging time could be a matter of life or death situations. Anyone would like to present me with the Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Ginza Limited Edition? I heard that it’s one of the best around the world.

IT WAS NOT MY FAULT

It is great to own some pets to keep the home environment more lively but there are also hiccups when you have just one too many at a time. That was what I found out… the hard way. Initially, I just told myself that having a pair of cats at home would surely make my life happier. Eventually, the two pets had another three kittens joined in the family just a few months later. Well, FIVE pets in the house would still be manageable. Subsequently, two strays came knocking at my front door with that Shrek’s Puss-In-The Boot pathetic looking eyes begging for food. Being a compassionate person, I fed them outside as they were fleas infested.

Just within the next few days, step by step and wit by wit, they managed to gain control over the house, making friends with the rest of the indoor cats. Well, SEVEN is still within my means to get them well fed and comfortable within the house. Out of the blues, the mother cat went out “partying” for a few days and I ended up with another two kittens 2 months later. NINE is quite a crowd but it’s still within my control as all of them had that innocent and well behaved characteristics.

As the kittens began to get older, situations here were rather chaotic. Each day they grew larger and became hyperactive. Day and night, they would be chasing each other endlessly upstairs and downstairs, inside and outside of the room. With all the rough play, they subsequently made a large hole on my plaster based wall. With so many of them within the house, I could not detect who was the culprit. It would well be the big and strong Jeremy or my wild little girl, Jolyn. What else could I do except to drag myself to the nearest material handling store to get that hole patched up? It was no longer fun anymore as there were endless streams of patching and fixing all the time. Although it did eat into quite a noticeable amount in my monthly budget, it’s still a commitment and responsibility I had set upon when I had decided to take care of the welfare of my pets since day one.

LAVISH MEALS VERSUS DIETING

What would you do when are on a diet and you have a forth coming festive season where you would be having a lot of dinners and parties? Would you just sit down there and watch all the delicious food being passed around the table or would you jump in the fun and worry about getting fatter by the end of the celebration? I’m sure you would not miss your Mum’s favorite cooking such as the Lamb Shank nor would you want to miss out her Double Chocolate Cheese Moist Cake.

This is the common question posed by most people on strict diet. To me, it all lies in the controlling power of a person. There’s never a right or a wrong answer to whether a person can consume this dish or that dish. It should be a well balanced and complete diet. A meatless and sugarless diet may not be the ideal choice as it would drain your body of the energy to perform well in your daily activities.

You could still go for your Mum’s home cook food but then you might want to consider reducing the intake of some of the other fatty dishes or sugar rich beverages such as BBQ bacon or Iced Honey Cappuccino. After all, how many times a year would you get to enjoy your Mum’s home cook food when you are already having a family of your own elsewhere?

It’s all within your will power to be self disciplined. If you are having 15 minutes of exercises daily, then go for an extra 10-15 minutes for the next few days. That would help to reduce the weight you have gained. Just make sure that you do not skip the fat burning and diet pill you are on during your eating spree.

WHAT SHOULD BE YOUR IDEAL WEIGHT?

Written by crizlai on Jan 21st, 2009 | Filed under: awareness, diet, exercise, health, life, living, tips

BMI or Body Mass Index as many had known is basically a term used by many physicians and researchers in measuring obesity. It uses a mathematical formula that takes into account both a person’s height and weight. The formula is rather simple as BMI equals a person’s weight in kilograms divided by height in meters squared. (BMI=kg/m2).

Obesity is a serious health hazard, having the risks of a number of grave medical conditions such as heart disease, stroke, high blood pressure, diabetes, cancer, gallbladder disease and gallstones, osteoarthritis, gout, sleep apnea and asthma. An obese person would normally have one or more of hidden dangers such as high blood pressure, high cholesterol level, inability to control blood sugar and many more. These dangers may lead to a person’s sudden death without much symptoms or signs.

Moreover, the extra weight of an obese person would exert additional pressures on both their knee, hip and lower back joints and thus slowly wear away their protective cartilage resulting in osteoarthritis. They would have a higher risk in developing gout. Snoring heavily and irregular breathing during sleep are part of sleep apnea, which would cause an obese person to be in fatigue and sleepy most of the time. As a result, many heart related diseases would occur.

Just refer to the chart shown below your height. Use a ruler to draw a horizontal line for your weight and a vertical line for your height. Check out which category you fall into. Are you in the underweight, normal, overweight or obese section? Anyone from the overweight and obese section should seriously consider looking into their health issues. You should get some weight off that body of yours by modes of eating healthy, do more exercises or get some diet pills. Please do it not only for yourself but for the concerns of your loved ones.
